This print is a high quality reproduction of a gouache painting on Fabriano paper, produced for the Antlers exhibition Grotesques, 2010.

Description:

A fallow doe lies fallen upon the ground. As her body decays and returns to the earth, butterflies come forth to feed from her, taking up valuable minerals and salts. So, from death springs life.

Amy’s paintings aim to convey the pure essence or souls of the animals they represent, weaving in a subtle narrative of birth, love, death and decay. Working primarily in bold, flat gouache, Amy takes her inspiration from British folklore and superstitions as well as the shamanic traditions of Native American medicine. Presently, she is also studying the art of taxidermy, which unites both her love of art and anatomy.

Amy is a Bristol based artist. Originally from Wiltshire, her rural upbringing helped to fuel her fascination for the natural world, principally her interest in the indigenous flora and fauna of the British Isles. She graduated in 2007 from Falmouth College of Arts with a BA (Hons) Illustration.
